On March 17th, ACTeon and the EJWP team visited the Petite Camargue Alsacienne with Léa MERKLING.

Léa took us to the newly restored area of 904ha in the Rhine floodplain, explaining the challenges of aquatic ecosystem restoration. She also toured our group in the natural reserve, showing us the diversity and dynamics of alluvial forests, reedbeds, fish ponds and meadows.

We got the chance to have a look at the fish farm to breed Salmon for the repopulation of the Rhine, as well as the Swiss sheep, Tarpan horses and Highland cattle that dwell in the wetland.

The visit illustrated perfectly ACTeon’s masterclass on aquatic ecosystem services and their evaluation.
