CONTEXT
The assessment underscores the important work carried out by local stakeholders for sea turtle conservation and their long-term collaborative relationships, particularly with Guyanese fishermen. It also points to certain dysfunctions and failings in the governance and implementation of the NAP, including: weak strategic steering; the NAP’s lack of visibility and political weight; the low level of involvement of local authorities; the insufficient link between research actions and concrete threat reduction actions.
OBJECTIVES
The primary aim of the project is to carry out a final evaluation and assessment of the implementation of the National Action Plan for marine turtles in French Guiana. In particular, the project aims to :
- Carry out an analysis on the scale of the actions, taking into account their level of completion and results;
- Analyze governance and the interplay of players;
- Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the NAP, also providing information on exogenous factors beyond the scope of the NAP;
- Formulate recommendations to improve the effectiveness of the NAP in the event of its renewal.
