CONTEXT
The importance of protecting and managing the ocean sustainably is gaining increasing political and social attention. Yet, the education system in many countries approaches the topic in a very fragmented way – it is unable to make people understand the meaning of the ocean as a complete ecosystem, as a source of resources, as a regulator of the climate, as an important component of our culture.
OBJECTIVES
During the project we have organized four national events and trainings as well as exchanges between teachers and students, and a final pan European multiplier event in Marseille, which offered a free creative space for project pupils to showcase their work, results, feedback, and knowledge.
Key achievements:
- Benchmark existing approaches and design a framework for ‘Blue Challenges’ , with systematic monitoring and evaluation
- Engage and test it in pilot schools in France, Italy, Greece and Malta
- Organize multiplier events – national and international exchanges and trainings for teachers and students
- Develop handbook/ guide for teachers, and a roadmap for integrating ocean issues into school program in other Mediterranean countries
